Celeste Brusati is professor in the Department of the History of Art and the Department of Women's Studies. Her research focuses on the art and culture of the Netherlands in the early modern period, with special attention to the role of the pictorial arts in the making of Dutch history and culture. She has written on still life, trompe l'oeil, self-imagery, technologies of seeing, ideologies of art and gender, and the interplay of pictorial and textual discourses of art in the Netherlands. Her current work examines fictions of viewing and their functions in Dutch still life and genre painting.
