Kristine Ronan looks at identity formation through visual culture, focusing on American and Native American art from the 1830s through the 1970s. Her dissertation, "Buffalo Dancer: The Biography of an Image," follows an1834 work by exploration artist Karl Bodmer as it changes material forms and contexts across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Additional research interests include the history and theory of film; modernism; photography; print culture; and postcolonial theory.
