Any two (2) courses below the 300-level, one to be chosen – preferably -- from among courses numbered 101, 102, 103, 108, or 112. One 100-level course may be met through Advanced Placement (AP) credit upon approval by a HA advisor. Each prerequisite should, if possible, be from a different sub-field or group, chosen from those on the distribution grid below.

CONCENTRATION PROGRAM
Credit Hours
A minimum of 27 credit hours. At least 4 courses (or a minimum of 12 credits) must be at the 300-level or higher, and one of these must be a course designated “Seminar.” One 3-credit course (200-level or higher) among the same 27 credits must also meet the “Methodology” requirement. In specifically designated cases a single course may meet both the Seminar and Methodology requirements. Three courses (at the 200-level or higher) must also meet the distribution requirements described below. Students are otherwise free to choose whatever they wish to make up their Concentration. A maximum of 12 History of Art credit hours (including study-abroad courses) transferred from other universities, and a maximum of 6 HA 399 credits, may be counted toward the Concentration.
Distribution Requirements
Students must take courses covering each of at least three (3) different Geographical Areas and covering each of at least three (3) different Chronological Periods as designated on the grid below.
NOTE: Each term the Department of the History of Art posts on its website a list of its course offerings. To assist in planning for the fulfillment of the Concentration distribution requirements, each course listing has special distribution and credit information after the course number(s) and title. Thus Roman and Arabic numerals refer to the Geographical Areas and Chronological Periods to which that course belongs. For example (IV.1) would be a course that fits Geographical Area IV, Europe (East and West, with certain North American) and Chronological Period 1, Ancient. A second designation indicates if a course fulfills the Seminar requirement, the Methodology requirement, or both the Seminar and Methodology requirements.
