Distribution:  Elective courses must cover at least two different Geographical Areas and two different Chronological Periods according to the following grid:

                                                            Chronological Periods

Geographical Areas

1) Ancient

2) Byzantine and Medieval

3) Early Modern

4) Modern and Contemporary

I.   Western Asia and North Africa (Middle East) and Central Asia

II.   Sub-Saharan Africa

III. Eastern Asia

(China, Japan, India, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific

IV.  Europe (east and west), with some North America

V.  The American and the Caribbean

NOTE: Each term the Department of the History of Art posts on its website a list of its course offerings. To assist in planning for the fulfillment of the Minor distribution requirements, each course listing has special distribution and credit information after the course number(s) and title. Thus Roman and Arabic numerals refer to the Geographical Areas and Chronological Periods to which that course belongs. For example (IV.1) would be a course that fits Geographical Area IV, Europe (East and West, with certain North American) and Chronological Period 1, Ancient. A second designation indicates if a course fulfills the 3-credit Methodology or Seminar requirement.
