Program Overview
The Department of History's Graduate Program
goal is to engage graduate students and faculty in
individual and collective interdisciplinary investigations
of historical thought, and in research on the historical
experiences of humanity in different time and places.
Graduates are expected to become outstanding teachers
at universities and colleges throughout the world,
and to make innovative and enlightening contributions
to the study of history, whether as teachers, researchers,
public historians, or independent scholars.
Understanding the application process, procedures and specific program requirements for various graduate program, can be quite challenging. A "Frequently
Asked Questions" section has been created to help make the quest
for information a little easier. This section contains general
program information, as well as information on admission
procedures, the application process, funding, language
requirements, course requirements, and Ann Arbor.
We will begin accepting applications for Fall 2009 admissions in September of 2008. The History Department deadline for 2009 admissions is December 1, 2008. This is a firm deadline.
