Applying for Admission

General Information: Applying online is now standard as the admission application is no longer available in printed form except under exceptional circumstances. General instructions for applying on-line are available on the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies website.

Program Information & Application Instructions: Before beginning the application process please read the section Information for Prospective Students This includes information and application instructions specific to the Doctoral Program in Anthropology and History.

Application Procedures

For consideration for Fall term 2010 admission a completed application must be received by December 1, 2009. (Please do not submit an online application before September 1st)

Step One: Complete an Online Application (This will open a new secure window; you must have a valid credit card to apply)

Step Two: Submit the Application and Supporting Documentation

The Doctoral Program in Anthropology and History is a Rackham Graduate School program therefore some of the application materials will go to the Anthro-History Program and some will go to the Graduate School. (please be sure to consult the checklist and addresses listed below )

Please Note

The online application and any documents uploaded to it will be provided to the both the Program and to Rackham electronically. (there is no need to submit printed copies of any materials submitted as part of the online application)

Statements: the Statement of Purpose and the Personal Statement can be uploaded to the online application

Letters of  Recommendation: as part of the online application process, faculty may now submit their recommendation forms and letters online. Applicants are automatically notified when the recommender submits their letter. Please register recommenders in section five of the online application to take advantage of this feature.

Test Scores: Please be sure that the University of Michigan is indicated on the recipient list for all test scores (GRE, TOEFL, MELAB, IELTS) so that scores are automatically sent. The University of Michigan Institution code is: 1839 the Anthropology and History Program code is: 2799
