My research deals with practices of construction, demolition, risk management, and standardization that surrounded large-scale urban infrastructural projects in colonial and post-colonial Moroccan cities.  Under the French Protectorate and the post-independence Moroccan State, debates about the form and function of urban infrastructures became central to changing understandings of property, expertise, and imperial power.  I look at projects in cities such as Casablanca and Agadir where demolishing slums, implementing engineering standards, and measuring and managing environmental risks and hazards became strategies for governing urban Morocco.
