Giving Opportunities

The Honors Program is first and foremost and academic program, but we are proud to extend our reach beyond the classroom to advising, activities, and programs that build community to shape and enhance the cultural, intellectual, and active lives of our students. Therefore, the success of Honors Housing, Honors Faculty Fellows, and a wide variety of programming is key to maintaining the vibrant community that better helps students define and pursue their own intellectual journeys within one of the world's truly great universities. At the same time, the continuing grim economic climate in the state of Michigan is creating unparalleled budgetary pressures for the University, requiring us to be even more reliant on your support than in the past. With today's dramatically increased competition in college admissions at elite institutions, we are challenged as never before to attract the best students to Michigan and to give them the best program possible once they are here - a program that includes small, faculty-taught courses, a lively community offering engagement with faculty outside of class, and a residential component that brings intellectual excitement into the dorms. We need your help now more than ever if today's students are to have the same extraordinary intellectual opportunities that have characterized LSA Honors for the past fifty years.

Specific needs that Honors is hoping to fund in the 2008-2009 academic year are:

  • Expanded support for Chemistry Honors structured study groups in more courses
  • Expanded RA support as Honors Housing expands to the Hill
  • Growth in Honors Fellows programs
  • Increased faculty involvement in Honors advising
  • Increased scholarship support for student research, thesis writing, global experiences
  • On-going support for enrichment, frosh book, Lunch with Honors, RA programming

Please consider giving to the LSA Honors Program. You can give to the Honors Program in all the same ways you give to the university, including estate giving and bequests and employer matching contributions. Visit the University of Michigan Giving Website for more information on how to give, and to make an online donation.
