Honors Housing

Honors Housing is an option for you if you wish to extend your intellectual life beyond the classroom and live with like-minded peers. While the majority of each incoming class lives in Honors Housing, you are not required to do so, and you're welcome to choose to live in other residence halls if you wish. For example, if you are involved in another Michigan Learning Community such as the Residential College or Health Sciences Scholars, you are required to live in that MLC and are not eligible to elect Honors Housing.
Where is Honors Housing Located?
Honors Housing is available in two residence halls: the South Quadrangle Residence Hall is the co-ed option, and the women-only option is the Martha Cook Building. South Quad is a large, co-ed high-rise residence hall located in the Central Campus Housing neighborhood; Honors students comprise about 35% of the residents, in contiguous rooms. South Quad offers a computing center, snack bar, training room, and piano practice rooms as well as the usual amenities of dining, laundry, and lounges. Martha Cook is a small, traditional, independent house for women in the Central Campus Housing Neighborhood; it features beautiful rooms, traditional events, and a warm community for its residents.
What are the Benefits of Honors Housing?
Honors Housing offers the opportunity for additional contact with your Honors classmates, as well as additional social and educational opportunities planned by the Honors Residential Advisors. The Honors Residential Advisors are a dynamic group of Honors upperclassmen charged with taking the vibrant intellectual community of the Honors Program into the Honors residence halls. Some of the events planned and lead by the Honors RAs include:
- Honors Kickoff Afternoon
- Halloween Bash
- Honors Tailgate
- Alternative Spring Break
- Detroit Project (DP) Day
- Talent Show
All Honors students are welcome to participate in Honors Housing activities, no matter what their place of residence.
