Reapplication Process
The LS&A Honors Program's 2008-2009 residential community reapplication periods for South Quadrangle and Couzens Halls will take place on Monday, January 28, in the first-floor Yuri Kochiyama Lounge and on Tuesday, January 29, in the Honors Lounge at 1330 Mason Hall.
Please read the following information carefully. If you do not follow this procedure, you will not get a room in Honors Housing next year.
REAPPLICATION FOR THE SAME ROOM:
1a) If you want to return to your present Honors room in 2008-09 for either South Quad or Couzens Hall you will get it.
1b) You will need to go to the South Quad Yuri Kochiyama Lounge on Monday, January 28, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. to sign your Honors Housing addendum. If you are unable to attend at that time, you must elect a proxy who can sign for you at the time of your reapplication.
1c) All unclaimed Honors Housing spaces for returning reapplications will be considered relinquished for 2008-2009 after 10 a.m. on Monday, January 28, and will be eligible for reapportionment beginning on Tuesday, January 29.
APPLICATIONS FOR DISPLACED ROOM CHANGES:
2) If you are a displaced Honors resident (i.e., your room designation has been changed to non-Honors; changed gender; or for a medical displacement) who wants a like room type:
2a) You will need to go to the South Quad Yuri Kochiyama Lounge on Monday, January 28, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to sign your Honors Housing addendum. If you are unable to attend at that time, you must elect a proxy who can sign for you at the time of your reapplication.
2b) All unclaimed spaces for displaced students will be considered relinquished for 2007-2008 after 11 a.m. on Monday, January 28, and will be eligible for reapportionment beginning on Tuesday, January 29.
APPLICATIONS FOR OTHER ROOM CHANGES:
3) If you are:
3a) An Honors student (including a displaced student wanting a different room type) who wishes to select a different room; or
3b) An Honors student who currently resides in non-Honors university housing but wishes to live in a designated Honors room:
You will need to contact me, Honors Program Housing Coordinator (jcantu@umich.edu), via email by 5 p.m., Thursday, January 24, to enter the 2008-2009 Honors Housing lottery. Lottery numbers issued will be drawn at random to insure fairness in determining all Honors room assignment requests. If you have a roommate request, please notify me at this time to enable appropriate lottery numbers to be issued. All lottery numbers will be e-mailed to recipients at 8 a.m., Monday, January 28.
THE HONORS LOTTERY:
4) The information you submit to get a lottery number must include: Your full name (first and last); your UMID number; contact phone number; and roommate request (if any).
I will respond to your email request with your lottery number.
5) You will need to go to the Honors Lounge at 1330 Mason Hall on Tuesday, January 29, according to your assigned lottery time, with your email correspondence listing your lottery number, to get your room assignment and sign your Honors Housing addendum or arrange for a proxy. You will not be eligible for a room assignment if you do not have your email lottery number correspondence and a picture ID.
6) Tuesday, January 29: Honors students in any current Honors space participating in the lottery may select a different Honors space. The following timetable will be used during the selection process:
01 -- 20: 8:00 a.m.
21 -- 40: 9:00 a.m.
41 -- 60: 10:00 a.m.
61 -- 80: 11:00 a.m.
81 -- 100: 12 p.m. (noon)
101 -- and higher: 1:00 p.m.
APPLICATIONS FOR OTHER NON-HONORS COMMUNITY ROOM CHANGES:
7) At 1:30 p.m., Honors students not currently living in Honors Housing and not participating in the Honors lottery but residing in another University Hall residence will be processed.
APPLICATIONS FOR MISSED SAME DAY LOTTERY APPOINTMENTS:
8) At 1:45 p.m., any Honors student who missed their scheduled lottery appointment may select any open Honors space. The Reapplication process will conclude at 2:00 p.m.
ROOM SELECTION PREFERENCE:
You should pick out three alternative room preferences before going to the Honors Lounge at 1330 Mason Hall during the period of your appointment. If all of your room choices have been taken, you will be asked to choose another available space at that time or lose your lottery place. We will have on hand a current list of Honors residents and program status for verification of your eligibility and request.
UNCLAIMED, RELIQUISHED, AND VACANT SPACES:
All unclaimed spaces will be considered relinquished and vacant for 2006-2007 academic year after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29.
SIGNING THE 2008-09 HOUSING CONTRACT:
You must sign your online Housing contract between February 14-19, 2008 or you will forfeit your 2008-09 Honors Housing Assignment.
Repeating: If you do not follow this procedure, you will not get a room in Honors Housing for next year.
