Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarship

The Beinecke Brothers Memorial Scholarship is awarded to juniors who are planning graduate work in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Applicants should have excellent academic records, recommendations from faculty who can speak to their promise of success in a graduate program, and must be able to demonstrate a history of receiving financial aid. Nominees must be endorsed by their institutions. Application materials are available in the Honors office, 1330 Haven Hall. To be considered for endorsement, you must submit a completed application form, a current resume, a copy of your transcript (unofficial is all right for the preliminary phase), a financial data sheet completed by a financial aid officer certifying that you qualify for need-based financial aid, a personal statement of 1,000 words or less describing your background, interests, plans for graduate study and career aspirations. The statement should include a discussion of some experiences and ideas that have shaped those interest, plans and aspirations. You should request three letters of recommendation from faculty who can attest to your intellectual curiosity, character, and potential for advance graduate study. Those letters should be sent directly to: Beinecke Scholarship Committee, LSA Honors, 1330 Mason Hall, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1027. Your application materials should be sent to the same address or dropped off at the Honors Program. Copies of the application form, financial aid data sheet, and other details are available on the Beinecke website.

Please note: The deadline for submission of applications to the UM Beinecke Committee is January 23, 2013. For the initial stage of the competition, recommendations can be emailed to honors.scholarships@umich.edu or faxed. If you are nominated, signed originals will be necessary by mid-February. Application forms including the financial data sheet are available in Honors.
