Honors Program Positions for Part-time Academic Advisors, “Honors Preceptors”
The LSA Honors Program seeks Ph.D. candidates from all divisions of LSA for part-time academic advising positions called Honors Preceptors.  Preceptors serve Honors students during summer Orientation and throughout the academic year, helping students explore the range of opportunities offered by Honors and LSA.  Preceptors help students understand how they can meet their personal and academic goals through the liberal arts and provide information and guidance on general College(not departmental) requirements, Honors expectations, pathways in pre-professional tracks, and other questions.  Appointments will be made term by term (including summer orientation), with the expectation that Preceptors will serve at least one year (with reviews at the end of each semester), but no more than two years; Preceptors work 8-12 hours per week (12-16 during summer orientation) at an hourly rate of $20.  Because these are temporary positions, they do not affect concurrent GSI, GSSA or GSRA appointments.  Training in LSA degree requirements and academic issues, and on-going discussion of curricular and advising questions are provided, thus not only equipping Preceptors for their work but also preparing them for future faculty roles.

Applications are due Wednesday, March 28, 2012.  Applications must include:

- Cover letter explaining your interest in the position, any previous advising experience you have, and what, if any experience you have had with Honors at UM or elsewhere

- Current C.V.

- Brief statement of support from your dissertation supervisor.  This should not be a full letter of recommendation: instead it should be a short statement from your supervisor that this extra responsibility will not impede your progress to completion.  This statement must come directly from your dissertation supervisor via email to Dr. Donna Wessel Walker, dlww@umich.edu

Please send your materials to Dr. Donna Wessel Walker, dlww@umich.edu, 1330 Mason Hall.
