Orientation Info

The Honors academic portions of orientations run on nearly every orientation date during the summer, so you'll have your pick of dates to choose from. However, be aware that each orientation program date has a cap of 12 to 20 Honors students. Register as soon as you are able to commit to a date in order to improve the chances that there will be space available on your preferred orientation date.

Important Note for Joint Program students: If you are also in the Residential College or the School of Music, Theatre and Dance , please be sure to attend one of their program dates. You will receive Honors Advising as part of your orientation for your program and will be instructed as to when this will occur. If you are a preferred admit to the Ross School of Business, please register for one of the preferred admit dates:  you will join the other Honors students for advising on the second day before proceeding to the Business School for its advising program.

To find out more about orientation in general and to register for your orientation date, you should visit the web site of the Office of New Student Programs.

What is Honors Orientation like?

Day 1: You'll join your fellow incoming students from across the university for your first day and a half of orientation to take placement exams, tour the university, and be introduced to the university's library and computing systems.

Day 2: Before lunch, you'll be picked up by an Honors Peer Advisor who escort you to the Honors Program Office for a special lunch with the directors when you'll receive your First-year Book. After lunch, you'll have your introduction to Honors Advising and academics: You'll hear about the requirements of the college and the Honors Program, and then have a chance to discuss your academic plans individually with an Honors Advisor, who will help you pick some appropriate courses for your first term at Michigan.   If you are a joint degree student in Music, or a joint RC-Honors student, you will come to Honors after being advised in your "home" unit.  If you are a preferred admit to the Ross School of Business, you will come to Honors first and then attend the orientation advising program in the Business School.

In the evening of Day 2, you'll go to a computer session with the Honors Peer Advisors, who will help you learn more about Wolverine Access (U of M's student administration system) and will help you set up a class schedule for Fall Term.

Day 3: In the morning you'll come back to the Honors Office to confirm your schedule with your advisor and register for your courses.

We're looking forward to seeing you at Honors Orientation!
