Michelle O'Grady has been the Director of HSSP since its inception in 2001. She provides vision and direction for the program, convenes HSSP's Faculty Advisory Committee, involves faculty from across campus, and teaches the core course, UC 105-106: Perspectives on Health and Health Care.

 

Michelle is a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse-Midwife with experience in a variety of health care settings, and is a faculty member at UM's School of Nursing.  She earned her BS in Biology from Illinois Benedictine, her BS in Nursing from the University of Illinois-Chicago, her MS in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and a post-Masters' Certificate in Teaching from the University of Pennsylvania.

Wallace Genser has been Associate Director and Program Manager of HSSP since its inception. Wallace coordinates co-curricular programming, including speakers and events, works with LSA, Residence Education, and other UM units to create meaningful academic and social programs, works closely with HSSP's student leaders, and assists Michelle in continually assessing and improving HSSP.

 

Wallace received his BA in English from Rutgers, and his MA and PhD in American Culture from UM. He has taught at UM and Michigan State University, and before joining HSSP he was Coordinator of Academic Programs for LSA's Office of Student Academic Affairs.

Joyce Sutton has been HSSP's Pre-Health Academic Advisor since 2002. She works closely with the advising staff of UM's schools and colleges to provide customized pre-health advising services to HSSP students, including career exploration, course selection, and how to use campus resources.

 

Born and raised in New Jersey, Joyce received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers in Social Work and Urban Community Development and her Masters from UM in Urban Planning. Before coming to HSSP, she worked at the UM Medical Center, Undergraduate Admissions, the College of Engineering, the Medical School, LSA, and the Health Occupations Partners in Education Program.

Linda Popovic joined HSSP as Student Administration Assistant in 2007.  Linda is HSSP's initial contact for parents, students, and other UM offices.  She works closely with HSSP students and hosts to coordinate students' pre-health Job Observations, and supports the program administratively.

 

Linda received her Bachelors degree in Music Education and MM in Music Theory from the University of Arizona, and her PhD in Music Theory from Yale. She has taught instrumental music in public schools in the U.S. and Johannesburg, South Africa, and music theory at Vanderbilt University.  Prior to joining HSSP, she worked as the Administrator of the Rudolf Steiner School in Ann Arbor, Enrollment Director of the Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs and in student services in UM's College of Engineering.
