To apply to HSSP, first-year undergraduates admitted to UM's Ann Arbor campus should complete the "Michigan Learning Community" (MLC) application and essay question section of your online Housing application. Admitted students who have paid their enrollment deposit will receive access to your online Housing application beginning in late March, or approximately three weeks after you have paid your enrollment deposit. Students may apply to up to three Michigan Learning Communities on your Housing application. A sample essay question that may be asked is: "How do you think your intended academic plans will be enhanced by participation in your first-choice Michigan Learning Community? Include both what you hope to gain from and contribute to the program."
Please be aware that admission to HSSP is *not* guaranteed. HSSP is a small community, and each year receives applications from many more students than the program can accommodate. UM offers many other opportunities for pre-health students, such as the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP), the UM Mentorship Program, student organizations, volunteer opportunities at the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS), and other Michigan Learning Communities.
Beginning in early June, you will be contacted regarding your MLC application status. If you are admitted to an MLC, that MLC will send you information on program requirements. If you apply only to HSSP, you will hear directly from HSSP regarding your admission status.
