Come join us  to learn and celebrate the impact Muslim American women have in the field of Journalism and Communications.  Muslim women are constantly engaging with popular media and disrupting the hegemonic discourse surrounding Muslims in America. At this kickoff event for Women’s Heritage Month, our goal is to bring to light the narratives of three prominent Muslim women of color journalists and social media trailblazers to share their journeys, the challenges they have faced, and their motivations, successes and inspirations.

Broadcast journalists Mariam Sobh, Mona Abdi, and Amina Waheed will be attending the panel.  Amina Waheed is of South Asian heritage and will be speaking about her experience in conjunction with her ethnicity, gender, religion and class in the context of her work.

Co-sponsors: Arab and Muslim Studies, Islamic Studies Program, Women's Studies Department, Center for South Asian Studies, Department of Afro and African American Studies, and Assistant Dean of LSA.
