The academic job market is very competitive, but IPCAA’s placement record remains historically excellent. A recent survey showed that 13 out of 88 or 15% of all tenure-track positions in Classical archaeology in the US between 1999 and 2009 went to IPCAA graduates. When candidates from European institutions are eliminated, IPCAA’s placement record improves to 20% of all positions awarded to North American Ph.Ds.
Our placement record is also very good in absolute terms. From Fall 2002 to Fall 2012, 16 out of 19 or 84% of our graduates who have been finished for more than 3 years have tenured or tenure track teaching positions in Classical archaeology or art history, or equivalent positions in the museum world (from 2002-2006, the record was 100%). Of graduates who have been finished for 3 years or less, 7 out of 11 or 64% have full-time visiting or tenure-track teaching positions or postdoctoral fellowships.
