Hebrew

The study of Hebrew at the University of Michigan began in 1890 and has since expanded into one of the largest and strongest programs in the country. Courses are offered at all levels – from basic to advanced, as well as a variety of introductory, upper-level and graduate-level courses in Hebrew literature.

Housed within the Hebrew & Jewish Cultural Studies Program in the Department of Near Eastern Studies, the language program provides an understanding of ancient and modern Hebrew with an emphasis on reading, writing and speaking.

In addition to traditional course work, the Ann Arbor area provides a number of social opportunities to practice Hebrew-speaking skills, including weekly discussion groups and monthly events.
