THE TEMENOS OF MÊN ASKAÊNOS
The temenos of the Temple of Mên was the focal point of the sanctuary. Outside and inside the temenos was adorned with dedications to Mên in the shape of aediculae (houselike shrines). The crescent moon carved on the dedications is the symbol of Mên, the moon god. Inside the temenos, the visitor would have found marble aediculae, as well as dedicatory statues, carved statue bases, and inscriptions.
Since the connection between the cult of Mên Askaênos and Pisidian Antioch was an important one, the city minted currency bearing images of the god. The coin illustrated here shows an image of Mên within his temple.
