Looking for something different? Not all school programs fit into the fieldtrip tour model followed by most museums. That's why the Kelsey is willing to shape a program to fit your needs. Do you have a special project involving the ancient world? Let us know, and we'll see how we can help you out.
Here are some examples:
Webcam Project
Webcams between the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills and the Kelsey Museum allowed students live access to the Kelsey Museum via the Internet. Presentations at the Kelsey were viewed by the students in their classroom, where they were able to ask questions during the presentation. The program culminated in an on-line exhibit created by the students.
Archaeological Institute of America Local Society Incentive Grant Program
This program used a variety of workshops and presentations to teach students about archaeology. Using artifact reproductions, the participants also created their own archaeological exhibits, taking charge of everything from designing label copy to choosing fonts and colors.
Girl Scout Museum Badge and the Boy Scout Archaeology Badge
The Kelsey can help your scouts fulfill the requirement for the Girl Scout museum badge or the Boy Scout archaeology badge.
Bible School
The Kelsey has a variety of fun and educational activities relating to the Biblical world. Artifact reproductions of objects from Egypt, Rome, and the Near East highlight daily life in the ancient world while providing a hands-on educational experience.
Summer Camps or Daycare
Providing regular activities for children during the summer can be difficult. The Kelsey has a variety of hands-on activities for children of all ages. All our activities are designed to be fun and engaging while slipping in a little educational instruction as well.
Home School
The Kelsey provides additional educational resources for home schoolers studying the ancient world. We recognize that many home schoolers would benefit from a more extended trip to the Museum. We work with large and small home school groups to help your students get the most out of a fieldtrip. In addition to our regular tour program, we offer classroom presentations on the following subjects:
- Roman architecture and engineering
- Greek architecture
- Egyptian architecture
- Dining and food in the ancient world
- Daily life in Greece and Rome
- Life of a Roman soldier
