TARGETED KELSEY FUNDS
Kelsey Public Programs Funds (Fund Code 303474)
The Kelsey sponsors a series of educational and innovative events for children—which include our famous "eviscerated Barbie doll" sessions that teach children about mummies—as well as lecture series and periodic overseas tours for adults. We hope to grow these funds as we continue to plan more ambitious activities in the future.
Kelsey Exhibition Funds (Fund Code 302974)
The Museum mounts two special public exhibitions each year, with plans for expanded programming. Exhibitions cost from $50,000 to $100,000 each. The budgets typically include special items on loan from other world-class museums, the publication of a catalogue, special labels and graphics, shipping costs, insurance, and special display cases.
Kelsey Fieldwork Funds (Fund Code 307415)
The Kelsey has been sponsoring path-breaking excavations and surveys since 1924. The Museum continues its active work in the field, with current (and future) work in Egypt, Israel, Italy, and, Turkey. Costs for fieldwork overseas continue to rise, and currency exchanges fluctuate, so increased funding in this area is particularly crucial.
Kelsey Fellowship and Research Funds (Fund Code 312375)
Archaeological research has always played a vital role in the Museum's mission. To that end, fellowships can help Kelsey-affiliated faculty members travel overseas for fieldwork or to study material in other museums, as well as purchase equipment, analyze samples, pay for photography, and ultimately publish the results of their research. The Kelsey also sponsors student participation in archaeological fieldwork. Paying the expenses of up to 25 students for summer field research typically costs $3,000 to $4,000 each. It is also critical to our research and teaching roles to ensure that the Kelsey library can continue to afford the books and journals necessary to keep up with archaeological scholarship. Further expenses are incurred by our publication program, which produces exhibition catalogues, gallery guides, and scholarly monographs, often at a cost of $8,000 to $10,000 for a single well-illustrated volume.
Kelsey Director's Discretionary Funds
Donations to these funds allow the Museum's director to decide which of the areas listed above can most benefit from your support.
