Wednesday, October 10th, 3-5pm with reception following: 

            A Celebration of Michigan Learning Communities

To celebrate the accomplishments and evolution of the learning communities on Michigan’s campus, LHSP is sponsoring a two hour panel on Michigan Learning Communities.

Opening. David Schoem, Director, Michigan Community Scholars Program, “A Retrospective: Fifty Years of Living-  Learning Communities at the University of Michigan”

Considering the First and Second Year:  Learning and Teaching in an MLC.  Panelists will include current and former students, as well as instructors, to talk about the academic and social impact of learning communities on the first and second year.

What Makes Learning Communities Different? MLC Assessment. The latest research on assessment conducted by four MLCs: The Michigan Research Community, Health Science Scholars Program, Lloyd Hall Scholars Program, and Global Scholars Program.

Program Overviews. Learning community students and faculty will describe a variety of academic and community projects that have grown out of learning communities, including Dr. Andrew Barnosky, Director, Health Science Scholars Program, “Job Shadowing”, and Mark Tucker, Art Director, Lloyd Hall Scholars Program, “FestiFools.”  

Conclusions: Marjorie Horton, Assistant Dean, Undergrad Education – 

                        The Future of MLCs at UM

Reception/ Launch of LHSP Journal, 5-6:30 pm. All are welcome. LHSP students will read from the new 50th Anniversary Arts and Literary Journal during this post-MLC reception. Tours of the building will be given.

Thursday, October 11th, 7-9pm:  Student performances

Friday, October 12th, 5-6pm: Tour of Alice Lloyd Hall for alumni, and reception

Friday, October 12th, 6-9pm:  Dinner, U-M Museum of Art
