Assistant Professor of Linguistics
Major research areas: syntax, computational linguistics/natural
language processing and language change.
Dr. Pires' research has two main scopes. First, he is interested
in syntactic theory (Principles & Parameters/Minimalism) and
its connection with language change, morphology and semantics. Second,
he is interested in computational linguistics/natural language processing,
especially with respect to parsers, computational models of language
and multilingual applications.
