Major research areas: Phonetics; Phonetics-phonology Interface; Psycholinguistics (speech perception)

Dr. Beddor's research areas include coarticulatory organization, acoustic phonetics, speech perception, and the relation between phonetics and phonology. Of particular interest are the ways in which the human auditory system constrains phonological systems, as well as the ways in which experience with a particular coarticulatory structure influences perceptual abilities. A current set of experiments investigates cross-language differences in two types of coarticulation (vowel-to-vowel and velic coarticulation) and corresponding perceptual behavior.
