During the first half of May, Harim Kwon presented a poster in Hong Kong at the Acoustics 2012 meeting of the Acoustical Society of America. Although we have always known that Harim's work is excellent, we now have independent verification of this fact. Harim received the prestigious "Best Student Paper" award for her presentation at the conference. Congratulations, Harim!
The title of Harim's presentation, based on her QRP research, was "Adaptation of English Word-final Stops: Effects of English Exposure". In this research, Harim shows that Korean listeners with different degrees of exposure to English perceive English differently. This research, which brings together results from speech perception and bilingualism, has implications for our understanding of both cross-language speech perception and loanword adaptation.
