Professor San Duanmu and PhD student Michael Opper have both been awarded Fulbright grants to China in the 2013-2014 competition.
Professor Duanmu will be hosted by Peking University in summer 2014. His Fulbright project will culminate in a database of the sound inventories (consonants, vowels, tones, onsets, and rimes) for the languages of China.
Mike Opper will be hosted by Yunnan University in the 2013-2014 academic year. Mike intends to collect original linguistic data on minority languages spoken in southwest China to investigate issues in phonology, morphology, and sociolinguistics. UM Linguistics alum Brook Hefright was also affiliated with Yunnan University on a Fulbright (academic year 2009-2010).
