Hayley is interested in sociolinguistics, dialects of English, and perceptions of dialect speakers. Her previous research has dealt with perception and comprehension of Southern dialects in different contexts. She is currently working with portrayals of Southern dialect in the media. Specifically, she's looking at what features are used in television shows with Southern characters and how these may play into characterizations.
