  Joseph's primary research interests involve how language shapes, and is shaped by, culture and the mind. Specific topics of inquiry include linguistic relativity, language taboos, and computer mediated communication. 

  Joseph received his degrees from Wayne State University in Psychology and Linguistics, minoring in Anthropology.
