What’s the difference between a Michigan program and a non-Michigan program?

Basically, a Michigan program is a program sponsored by the University of Michigan.  Credits and grades are transferred as credit in residence.  A non-Michigan program is sponsored by another host university.  Courses taken through non-Michigan programs must be approved for transfer, and grades do not transfer.  Consult with the Office of International Programs for more information.  Courses are approved through the Office of Admissions.

Can my general advisor sign my study abroad forms?

Yes—but no one in the Advising Center can guarantee that your credits will transfer.  You can get a letter from your advisor that explains the credit policy.

Can study abroad classes be used for my concentration?

Yes, with the approval of a concentration advisor.  Be sure to get approval before you sign up for the class.

Can study abroad classes be used for distribution?

Usually, with the approval of your general advisor.  Try to get tentative approval before you sign up for the class.

Can I apply to the Business School while I’m studying abroad?

A:  Yes—the application is online and can be downloaded.  Be sure to allow enough time to get the application mailed in by the deadline.
