Course Description Guidelines for Instructional Staff
- Begin with a statement of the subjects (topics, themes,
methods).
- Include any recommended special background that is not
already listed in course prerequisites.
- Indicate the basis of student evaluation (exams, papers,
etc.)
- Mention, if you wish, texts which will be required.
- State method(s) of instruction (lecture, lab, discussion).
- Descriptions for cross-listed and “meet-together”
courses will only appear in the “home” department but the course
title and instructor’s name will appear under the other department.
- Descriptions should be submitted to your department, or
you may submit them online (http://www.lsa.umich.edu/cma/login);
contact your department for the instructor userid and password.
Cost and Waitlist Information
The LSA Curriculum Committee has requested that the Course Guide include information
about the cost of books/materials for courses and the various course waitlist
procedures. Information about the cost of books/materials for courses and about
various course waitlist procedures is keyed below. The cost information comes
first, followed by the waitlist information, e.g., Cost:2 WL:3
Cost
The books/materials for this course:
1. Cost less than $50.
2 Cost $50 or more, but less than $100.
3. Cost $100 or more, but less than $150.
4. Cost $150 or more.
Waitlist
If the course is closed at Registration, the student should (choose one of the
following):
- Get on the WAITLIST through wolverineaccess.umich.edu,
and then attend the first class meeting. Policies and procedures for handling
the waitlist will be explained there.
- Go to the department office to get on a WAITLIST, and
then attend the first class meeting. Policies and procedures for handling
the waitlist will be explained there.
- Visit the faculty office of the instructor to see about
getting a permission number into the course.
- Wait until classes start, and then attend the first class
meeting. Policies and procedures for issuing permission numbers will be explained
there.
