From: McDowell, Susan Sent: Friday, October 03, 2003 10:25 AM To: McDowell, Susan Mac osx 10/1 Present: gretchen, scott, dave, todd, rob, jeff, sue Agenda: 10/8 presentation, updates. Updates: Timbuktu/netO-scott:will need to create super-admin group for netO admin. Showed admin screen. Need to think about who needs to be in this group. Can store accounts in SQL database or in keytab file....not necessarily the best way to go...just telling you it's there. Keytab would reflect all accounts...security concern. Suggest that noone adds password to key chain. List of admins on server will be starting point for this admin list. Computers you're allowed to see have to be bound to an administrator. Ip list is generated for everything now...will have to customize for each dept. if we'd prefer that. Csg would like full list. We'll create a central file for IP's and then admins need to maintain. It's an unformatted text file. Could be tied into DNS??? Short run-set it up basic. Long-run..it would be good to have someone take this over. Workstudies will be in there but we'll work on rights. Everyone in this room could have some level of access. Super-admin is in charge of everything...global. Dept folks have access to just their machines. More testing to do. Agent/client preferences...do we want them to be visible or invisible? We could create two packages...one for each setting? Create two packages so their dsa's can determine which one they want to use. Follow-up on the web site - sue to re-elevate this on her “to do” list. Dave-reminder about swl2...same accounts that we had? Password on caracal and serval. This server moves friday afternoon....don't access then. Rotten is reloaded...totally dev machine now. Built a new version of simple net install. Implemented some interface changes...will ask for feedback before production. Don't know how it works with new laptops....todd to check! :-) Top priority is getting g5's to be net boot-able. New vulnerability announced today. 10.2.7 ought to be compatible. Up until panther, we'll need to do separate support. Schedule for software updates is weekly by default. After this is done, we'll focus on panther. No hugh rush to update servers. We'll need a working image. Once new email server is up for Unix team, Len will join the mac effort. 10/8 meeting will be in haven. 10/8Meeting: Mark will do introduce the “why we convened this group in the first place.”...Jim to be available to include commentsm Gretchen/dave to demo start to netinstall. Make sure folks know about firmware updates. Rob to also comment about compatability. Jeff to pull together .pdf presentation about math lab and make it available. Scott/lewis re:netoctopus/timbuktu Sue - notification about movement to lua/lma community. Have two computers - one showing sni, one post-sni? Do a keynote presentation? Yes...content should go to Scott. Sue to confirm that next lua/lma meeting is the one in which we'll do bigger show-what date, what location. Todd to have an open house of new G5 and laptop present. 15” powerbook, etc. Must have the plastic hood to run.
