The LSAIT Infrastructure team offers three different backup solutions to meet your needs:
- Acronis for computers managing scientific instruments
- CrashPlan for desktop workstations
- Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) for servers
These are discussed in the following sections.
Acronis provides a central backup repository for research and instrumentation computers running Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8. Linux and Mac OS X based workstations are not eligible at this time. The service offers a disaster-recovery/bare-metal restore when standard file-based backup is not adequate enough for the workstation used to manage the instrument.
To request Acronis to back up your scientific instruments' computers, please contact email@example.com.
CrashPlan is a desktop backup solution used to automatically back-up critical data stored on personal computers that isn't stored elsewhere. The data can be restored in the event of accidental deletion, if the computer is lost or stolen, or if it's infected by a virus. The CrashPlan desktop backup solution is available, free of charge, to any LSA faculty, staff, or graduate student instructors (GSI) or graduate student research assistants (GSRA) running Linux, Mac OS X, or Windows operating systems. For more information please see the ITS CrashPlan page.
To request CrashPlan to back up your desktop or laptop workstations, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
The Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) service provides networked backup of data on your server-level machines such as application and file servers, server-side databases, and research data collections. For more information please see the ITS TSM page.
To request TSM to back up your servers, please contact email@example.com.
