Education Program Manager
Catriona joined MBGNA in 2002 and brings a range of experience in the environmental field to enrich her contribution. Currently Catriona coordinates the work of the education and interpretative department at the Arb and Gardens. As part of that work, she also targets efforts to engage the University community. She holds two degrees from Northern Illinois University: a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Geography and Urban Planning and a Master of Science in Education that focused on environmental and outdoor education. Her previous jobs have included investigating toxic and hazardous waste sites, conducting environmental impact assessments, assessing soil-erosion control efforts, teaching environmental education to a wide age group, recruiting volunteers, outreach efforts, and simply getting people engaged in outdoor and nature activities. With her background in education Catriona especially likes helping others learn about plants, native communities, and the restorative properties of nature.
Catriona is first generation American originally from Chicago. She loves to travel and keeps strong ties to family in Ireland. Her garden at home is mostly native plants, which she likes in part because they are low maintenance, leaving her more time for canoeing, crafting, and playing with her canine.
