Visitor Services Events Planner
Heather Hunter grew up right on the shore of Lake Superior. Having spent her entire childhood outside hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, etc. Heather developed a deep love of nature. After travelling around the country as a full time volunteer with AmeriCorps and graduating with a BS from Michigan Technological University in Applied Ecology with a concentration in Plant Sciences, she began her career at the Chicago Botanic Garden. She lead school field trips, youth and family programs and special events. She moved on to work at the Chicago Park District planning events for Nature Oasis. Heather planned outdoor workshops for summer camp programs all over the city and large special events like Toddlers, Tunes & Turtles and Polar Adventure Days where hundreds of people came to learn about nature and have fun. She also took Chicagoans of all ages sailing, kayaking, snowshoeing, camping, birding and stargazing right in the heart of the city. In 2012, Heather moved to Ann Arbor. After nearly a year at the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum, Heather is excited to plan events again and return to a Garden setting as a member of the team at Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. Heather believes that if people have fun with nature they will easily develop a lifetime love of plants and the outdoors. In her free time you will find Heather entertaining friends and family, out on the town enjoying special events, travelling, reading and exploring the great outdoors with her husband and two dogs.
