The University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum
"I come to the Gardens for my health, the serenity of nature, and the company of kindred souls."
Beverly Mosely,
Garden Volunteer
Winter is a great time to take a stroll and appreciate the conifers along the trails at the Arb and Gardens. If you wish to avoid the chill of winter, stop into the Conservatory at the Gardens to experience the sights and smells of plants from all over the world.

Jessica Kohnert
Horticulture Technician

Jess graduated from Western Michigan University in 2012 with a B.S. in Biology. Upon graduation, she served in AmeriCorps treating invasive plant species and restoring rivers in Northern Michigan with Huron Pines. Her passion for preservation and conservation continued as she worked for both the University of Michigan's Museum of Zoology and Herbarium preparing incoming specimens and digitizing collections. At Matthaei-Nichols Jess will help maintain and develop the living plant collections and natural areas on a variety of projects. When not working Jess enjoys learning new crafts and obsessing over her pet hermit crabs.
