Interns are the secret ingredient. As a Garden and Arboretum we are at a dynamic point in our history. Reaching 100 years as part of the University of Michigan we are established but still changing and growing. Our work-study students and summer interns work on real projects that make real contributions to how our organization works.

Last year interns were involved in these projects at the Arb and Gardens:

  • Design for the new children’s garden, Great Lakes endemics garden, bonsai garden and virtual bonsai exhibit.

  • Our Centennial logo and calendar

  • Shakespeare production management
  • Green roof demonstration exhibit
  • Hands-On Museum summer camp collaboration and Michigan Math and Science field course
  • Plantings and garden maintenance
  • A living willow domed lodge
  • Trail reconstruction for accessibility and flood control.

Our interns come to us at all skill levels from novice to experienced, and are recent grads, graduate and undergraduate students. Our interns work in all aspects of our organization. Plus internships will include opportunities to participate in planning and/or project teams with staff from across the organization.
