- Places for the Spirit: Traditional African American Gardens
An exhibition of black-and-white photographs featuring African American folk gardens captured by artist Vaughn Sills. In the spirit of outsider and folk art traditions, these culurally significant gardens reveal a unique aesthetic that is disappearing from the American landscape. Sills, an associate professor at Simmons College in Boston, traveled throughout the south, photographing gardens in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina along with their creators.
