In spring, Matthaei and the Arb burst into life. Over 20,000 daffodils in a line emerge and bloom at the Arb The fragrance of lilacs is on the air. Woody plants show off their flowers and the peonies peak in June.

This starfish flower resides in the arid house of the Botanical Gardens Conservatory. The arid house is one of three galleries in the Conservatory, each representing one of the world’s major biomes.

  • Annual Potluck and Bonsai Critique
    AABS members and attendees enjoy a meal followed by a critique of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and AABS trees. All invited; bring a dish to pass. Presented by Ann Arbor Bonsai Society. Info:

  • Infused Herbal Oils - Evening Herb Study Group
    Each attendee will leave with an 8-ounce jar of oil and an herb (lavender) to infuse, along with a handout on oil infusion.  Herbal oil infusions can be used for bath or massage oils or as a base for making lotion and salves. Supply cost is $5.00 per person for Herb Study members (dues paid);  $8.00  nonmembers. Program is open to the public. To register email Space limited to 16. Program is open to those wishing to attend for free. Oil and herbs not provided to anyone attending free.

    This program replaces the cancelled October 2012 event.
