  • Heirloom & Water-Wise Spring Plant Sale and Fundraiser

    Water less, grow more! A great selection of perennials for shade and sun that adapt well to drier regional summer conditions and stand up to the season’s heat. Also on sale in Greenhouse 3: kitchen favorites—heirloom herbs and vegetables grown and sold by Cultivating Community, the U-M student volunteer gardening group.   • 2012 U-M Nichols Arboretum Peony Festival

    The Peony Festival this year celebrates the 90th anniversary of the famed Nichols Arboretum Peony Garden, the largest collection of antique and heirloom peonies in North America. The festival also features free staff-led and self-guided tours, cut-flower display in the Reader Center, and more. Free admission. Nichols Arboretum is open sunrise to sunset.

  • Free Guided Peony Garden Tours

    All invited for a series of twice-daily, free staff-led tours of the U-M Nichols Arboretum Peony Garden, May 15-20 during the 2012 peony bloom season. All tours take place in the Arboretum, 1610 Washington Hts., at 12:15 & 7 pm. Due to unseasonably warm weather last winter and this spring we've moved the bloom time up.     Tonight’s speaker is Nile Dusdieker of Cedar Rapids, IA on Bulbophyllums—the largest group of orchids containing over 2000 species found mostly across Southeast Asia and the South Pacific Islands. Plants range in size from one-inch miniatures to 6-foot giants, and flowers from cute and showy to unusual and bizarre, sweetly fragrant to downright awful!
