The University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum

Visitor Alert: Arboretum Road Reconstruction

The next phase of Arb road reconstruction is scheduled to begin Monday, October 7.

This will involve portions of roads in the Arb from the Washington Hts. entrance to beyond the Peony Garden. See the map below for areas impacted by the next phase of reconstruction. Depending on the weather, we expect the project to take 4-5 weeks. (Read more about the story of the Arboretum road reconstruction project here.)

On Tuesday, Oct. 8 we will route visitors through the Reader Center and onto the patio; during the rest of the week we will route visitors through the patio. Once this first section is complete, visitors will be routed through the Peony Garden paths.

This is part of an ongoing reconstruction project to rebuild some of the old road surfaces in the Arboretum, many of which have not been improved since the early twentieth century. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to improve the roads in the Arb.
