Shakespeare in the Arb turns 15 in '15. In celebration we're offering four weekends of performances of the audience favorite A Midsummer Night's Dream, a play about love, magic, and dreams. Directed by Kate Mendeloff of the U-M Residential College and performed by U-M students and community players. Are you a Matthaei-Nichols member? About

  • Shakespeare in the Arb 2015 performance dates are: Thursdays through Sundays, June 4-7; 11-14; 18-21; & 25-28.
  • Box office is located in the lower level of the Arboretum Visitor Center at the 1610 Washington Hts. entrance
  • Shakespeare in the Arb performers and audience members move through sections of the Arb as the play progresses. Each performance lasts about 2.5 hours.
  • Due to the mobile nature of the performances and the outdoor settings, a limited number of tickets are available for each show.
  • Audience members sit on the ground. We recommend blankets or chairs. Those sitting in chairs will be asked to sit toward the back so as not to obstruct the view.
  • Performances may be cancelled due to inclement weather. Show cancellations occur prior to the box office opening. If bad weather threatens, call ahead (734.647.7600) or visit/follow us on Twitter @MatthaeiNichols for last-minute details.
  • Water is available for purchase at the box office. Insect spray is available for free at the box office.

  • Tickets for Shakespeare in the Arb are sold day of show only and on a first-come, first-served basis. Please arrive early to assure seating: due to the mobile nature of the performances and the outdoor settings, a limited number of tickets are available for each show.
  • Box office is located in the lower level of the Arboretum Visitor Center at the 1610 Washington Hts. entrance
  • Box Office opens at 5:30 pm for general admission; Matthaei-Nichols Members receive a discount on tickets and may reserve tickets in advance. Not a member? Join and save on Shakespeare tickets and more.
  • Shows start at 6:30. Ticket prices: Matthaei-Nichols members: $15; students with ID: $10; adults 19 and over: $20; seniors 62 and over: $17; children and youth 5-17: $10; 5 and under free.

Directions & Parking

Please note: Approximately 1/3 of the parking lot located directly across from the Mary Markley dorm is currently reserved for U-M student orientation use 24/7. This off-limits section is located in the portion of the lot closest to the Arboretum entrance. The section further from the Arboretum is remains a regular U-M blue lot available for public parking after 5pm.
Directions: Nichols Arboretum is located on the University of Michigan central campus near the UM Hospital. Please visit the directions to the Arb page on our website.

Parking: Free parking is available in U-M lots M-28 and M-29 near the 1610 Washington Hts. entrance to the Arb, and paid parking is available in the U-M Hospital P2 structure.
