Looking for a central location to hold a group meeting? How about catching up on some of your reading at a riverside bench? We have some of the University's best study spots.

The University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum makes ongoing efforts to make as many of its facilities, trails and display areas as universally accessible as possible. In addition to all of our public buildings being wheelchair accessible, we have also developed a number of display gardens and trails that incorporate recommended inclines, slopes and clearance to permit reasonable accessibility. Click here to learn more about a recent trail improvement project.

In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.
-John Muir

Handicap parking is available near all Matthaei Botanical Gardens entrances as well as at the Washington Heights entrance of Nichols Arboretum. Both locations also offer wheelchair accessible restrooms. For those picnicking, we offer accessible outdoor patios and picnic areas overlooking the Peony Garden at Nichols Arboretum and the Gateway Garden at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, as well as near the west parking lot of the Gardens.

Wheelchairs can be checked out from the information desk at Matthaei Botanical Gardens. Wheelchairs are limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
