what's in bloom
The Gateway Garden of New World Plants and the Alexandra Hicks Herb Knot Garden at Matthaei offer sensory delights with their profusion of colors and scents.
Check out the bloom calendar.
Looking for a central location to hold a group meeting? How about catching up on some of your reading at a riverside bench? We have some of the University's best study spots.

Expand your definition of ground covers. Mass plantings of a few genera demonstrate alternatives to the often aggressive invasive exotics so commonly used in our region. This new display showcases mixed masses of perennials needing minimal extra care - perhaps just right for your use at home.

This new demonstration planting is expected to be presentable year round, with an initial burst of daffodil cultivars (Narcissus) in the spring and then a peak bloom from mid- to late-summer. Major plants include selections of daylilies (Hemerocallis), sedums (Sedum), asters (Aster) and a few ornamental grasses (Festuca). It's likely we'll be experimenting with this planting as the seasons progress.

The Ground Cover Display is at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens site.

Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum needs private support and provides donors with many giving opportunities and recognition. For more details, please contact the Development Office at 1-734-615-9475.
