The University provides a rich source of cultural, social and academic events and resources that provide an atmosphere where students can thrive and grow. You'll find that camaraderie is encouraged both within the lab and between other labs.
In addition, the department sponsors various activities such as the departmental summer picnic or a sports event outing which provides informal opportunities to get to know students from the other labs as well as the postdocs and researchers in MCDB.
During the course of a graduate student's academic career, there are milestones achieved that are noteworthy. Obviously the most important is the defense of the thesis, which marks the culmination of five to six years of research. Take a look at our recently conferred students.
Each publication and each poster or paper presented at conferences represents progress towards the defense of the thesis and brings recognition to student, the mentor and the department. MCDB and Rackham demonstrate their support of this activity with travel awards.
