Program Expectations

MCSP Course Requirements

MCSP welcomes students from all schools and colleges within the University of Michigan.  As part of the MCSP academic curriculum, students are required to enroll in and complete at least three MCSP course requirements during their first academic year.

In the fall term, students are required to enroll in
1) UC 102 AND
2) an MCSP-linked First-Year Seminar*
---OR----  
3) a “Learning in Community” course (see the list of acceptable courses in our Course Guide)

In the winter term, students will enroll in the course option they did not complete fall term
1) an MCSP-linked First-Year Seminar*
---OR---
2) a “Learning in Community” course (see the list of acceptable courses in our Course Guide)

In addition, students are strongly encouraged to enroll in the MCSP English 125 course section either fall or winter term. Those students planning to take Math 115 or 116 may want to consider enrolling in the section with spaces reserved for MCSP students.

*MCSP Engineering Students, please note:
1) We strongly encourage you to enroll in an MCSP First-Year Seminar in the fall semester.

Sample Academic Schedules

Fall Term
Required: University Course 102 “The Student in the University”

Required (choose one):
1) Any MCSP First-Year Seminar OR
2) “Learning in Community” Course (see list of acceptable courses in our Course Guide)

Recommended: MCSP-linked English 125 (taught by an MCSP-affiliated professor with spaces reserved for MCSP students)

Optional: MCSP-linked Math 115 or 116 (taught by an LS&A professor with spaces reserved for MCSP students)

Winter Term
Required (choose the option you did NOT enroll in during Fall Term):
1) Any MCSP First-Year Seminar OR
2) “Learning in Community” Course (see list of acceptable courses in our Course Guide)

Recommended:
1) MCSP-linked English 125 (taught by an MCSP-affiliated professor with spaces reserved for MCSP students)
2) University Course 103 “Academic Decision Making”
3) Special Electives (taught by MCSP professor)

Optional: MCSP-linked Math 115 or 116 (taught by an LS&A professor with spaces reserved for MCSP students)

If there are exceptional circumstances that do not allow you to fulfill MCSP course expectations, you must see Robin, Wendy or David to arrange alternate means to complete the requirements.  All students should check the LS&A Course Guide and Wolverine Access for official and updated information on course times, course descriptions, classroom locations, information on grading, credit hours, prerequisites, and graduation requirements.
