There are wonderful programs in Greece lasting from 2 weeks (summer) to an entire academic year. Brochures and applications are available in the Department of Classical Studies. Credit towards the student's program of study is given on a case-by-case basis and after a review of specific offerings. Study abroad requires prior planning and consultation with the Modern Greek concentration advisor, Professor Vassilis Lambropoulos (vlambrop@umich.edu).

College Year in Athens: Steps to Study Abroad by Katina Malis
1) Meet with your academic advisor to determine if you can take an entire semester or if you should spend your summer abroad.
2) If applying to CYA and you are interested in financial aid, apply in the spring the year before you go because they distribute their financial aid for the entire year at the same time, not at each semester.
3) In order to apply to CYA you will need to do the following (all info available on their website www.cyathens.org):
Fill out application with biographical information
Write a personal statement
Fill out an academic plan which includes listing the courses you would be interested in taking. This form must be completed with an academic advisor because it requires a signature.
Complete the study abroad approval sheet with an advisor
Two academic references
A medical report complete with doctor?s signature and approval
Financial Aid Application-go to Financial Aid Office (located in the Student Activities Building) to complete with Financial Aid officer
4) Once accepted into CYA you will receive a packet of information from them. Make sure you read the instructions carefully because there are certain things that you need to do immediately in order to obtain your student visa on time (for expample, some consulates require a FBI background check, and this could take up to 9 weeks to complete).
5) Also, you need to apply to University of Florida as a non-degree transfer student for the semester you wish to study abroad because the credits transfer much easier through the University of Florida, then to University of Michigan.
