"Who's Who" in the MRC: Your Guide to "RAs", "PAs", "the PB" and More!
Each MRC first-year student is assigned a Resident Advisor (RA), a Research Peer Advisor (PA), and a Mentor, all of whom live in the MRC.

  • Resident Advisors (RAs) – There are four MRC Resident Advisors: Whitney Engler, Matthew Finkel, Jamuna Kesavan, and Brian Rumao. Resident Advisors are juniors and seniors at the university and in the MRC. Their primary role is to help build community in the residence hall and serve as resources to you for the MRC and university at large. Your RAs will help you get acclimated to residence hall living, respond to your day-to-day concerns, and plan academic, social, educational and multicultural programs and events for the community.
  • Research Peer Advisors (PAs) – MRC has ten research peer advisors of varying majors and backgrounds. Research peer advisors are second or third-year MRC students whose role is to help first-year MRC students find and complete a successful research project. Through project search and skill building workshops, monthly one-on-one meetings, research peer groups and seminars, they will be there to help every step of the way.
  • Mentors – Each MRC student will have a second or third-year MRC mentor. Different from your RA and PA, your mentor’s job is to serve as a less formal resource and friend. Each MRC mentor is responsible for mentoring 3-4 MRC students. So along with providing you with personalized support in your transition to the university, your mentor may plan small group outings or activities.
In addition to providing strong individualized support to first-year students, some MRC second and third-year students also serve on the MRC Program Board.
  • Program Board – Eleven returning MRC students make up the MRC Program Board. The MRC Program Board serves as the central community planning board for the MRC. With your help, the Program Board coordinates intramural sports, cultural outings, social activities, community service activities, and produces the community newsletter.
