The Michigan Research Community (MRC) Program Requirements
FALL semester MRC students are required to:
- Enroll in UC104-Introduction to the Research University for the Fall term of their first year only.
- Commit to and participate in a research project for the duration of their first year.
- Attend and participate in monthly Wednesday evening MRC Research Forums.
- Meet with their Research Peer Advisors monthly.
- Actively participate in MRC events and community activities.
WINTER semester MRC students are required to:
- Continue to participate in a research project.
- Attend and participate in biweekly Wednesday evening research peer group meetings.
- Continue to attend and participate in monthly Wednesday evening MRC Research Forums.
- Continue to meet with their Research Peer Advisors monthly.
- Participate in and present their research projects at either the MRC or UROP Spring Research Symposia.
- Actively participate in MRC events and community activities.
MRC students are encouraged to:
- Take advantage of weekly facilitated study groups organized for MRC students.
- Communicate any program or community concerns, ideas and suggestions to MRC staff.
As students living in University of Michigan Residence Halls, MRC students are also required to:
- Treat program staff, residence hall staff, and each other with respect.
- Uphold the Community Living Standards as described in the Community Living at Michigan. In particular, "it is expected that residents will carry out the required curricular, academic and service components of [the living learning community of which they are a part]. Residents who, for whatever reason, do not participate in the program or do not fulfill stated requirements may be deemed to have dropped out of the program. Any resident who drops out of the program will be reassigned to another residence hall." (Michigan Learning Communities Participant Responsibilities, page 15 of the CLAM).
