Prospective Students:
What Is A Research Community?
The Michigan Research Community (MRC) is a community of students interested not only in research but also equally interested in contributing to the formation of a dynamic living learning community. In addition to their academic and research-related endeavors, MRC students commit themselves to helping build a community based on mutual respect, common interests, and affirmation of diversity. MRC students contribute to the community by helping plan and participating in community events, utilizing program resources, attending community research forums and classes, and assisting and mentoring other students.

MRC Community Participation and Accountability Statement:
MRC Research Forums and community activities, along with the MRC's specialized program course UC104: Introduction to the Research University and your commitment to a research project with a faculty member, lay the foundation for the MRC. MRC Research Forums and community activities provide opportunities to gather together as a large group, to broaden your perspectives on research and related career opportunities, to network with faculty, and to build community. The MRC staff strives to provide MRC Research Forums that are enlightening, challenging, and thought-provoking, and community activities that are fun and worthwhile; however, the most important component of MRC Research Forums and community activities is you - the student. We urge on you to actively participate, ask tough questions, contribute your thoughts and perspectives, listen to the perspectives of others, and explore new areas of knowledge together with your community members.
