Applying to MRC
Students admitted to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, may apply to the Michigan Research Community through their online Housing Application. Admitted students who pay the enrollment deposit will receive access to the online Housing Application in late March, or a few weeks after paying the deposit. To apply to MRC, complete the Michigan Learning Community section of the Housing application. Students will have the opportunity to apply to up to 3 Michigan Learning Communities. On the application, students will be asked to choose the Michigan Learning Communities to which they are interested in applying and to complete a short essay question. The essay question will be similar to: "How do you think your intended academic plans will be enhanced by participation in your first-choice Michigan Learning Community? Include both what you hope to gain from and contribute to the program."
Beginning in early June, students will be contacted about the status of their application to all of the Michigan Learning Communities, including MRC. Each year MRC receives applications from more students than we can accept. For admitted students interested in participating in research, consider applying to the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP). UROP is a non-residential program which connects students with faculty-sponsor research projects. MRC is the residential affiliate of UROP. MRC and UROP have separate admissions processes. MRC and UROP work closely together. Student admitted to both MRC and UROP will be placed in MRC.
